Orientation and Mobility Program

San Francisco State University (SFSU) is the first university in the world to offer a Master’s degree or University Graduate Certificate in Guide Dog Mobility (GDM). In partnership with Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., this unique program prepares Guide Dog Mobility Instructors with the skills to train both dog guides and people with visual impairment in the use of a dog guide. The program’s curriculum prepares guide dog mobility instructors with the specific skills needed to work with people who have visual impairments, including those who have multiple disabilities and those from diverse cultural backgrounds. Our program prepares graduates to provide individualized training to clients on skills that promote independent travel, foster productive lifestyles, and enhance autonomous living through the use of a dog guide.
