What happened to Blackboard?

For over two years, SF State has been investigating alternatives to Blackboard (Bb) based on faculty focus group recommendations. During this time period, SF State has offered two different Learning Management Systems (LMS): Blackboard and iLearn. Blackboard is a commercial product that SF State licensed and hosted off-campus for a fee. iLearn is based on freely available open source code, called Moodle, which we modify, customize and maintain to meet the needs of our institution and host on-campus.

Last December, the Educational Technology Advisory Committee (ETAC) recommended that SF State move exclusively to iLearn. This report is posted on the ETAC website at http://www.sfsu.edu/~etac/ETAC_Report-iLearn-Bb-final.pdf PDF file
