Norma Carr-Ruffino has 25 years experience as an internationally recognized authority on women's issues and cultural diversity in the American workplace. During the past five years she has also focused on strategies for becoming more creative and innovative in the workplace.

As Professor of Management at San Francisco State University since 1973, she has done research and developed seminars that focused first on women's workplace contributions and challenges, later expanding her research to all types of diversity. Her book The Promotable Woman: Leadership Skills for a New Millennium is in its 3rd edition and has sold over a quarter million copies and is currently sold in Latin American as Mujer de Empresa. Her textbook Managing Diversity: People Skills for a Multicultural Workplace is used in university seminars throughout the U.S. and a trade book version Diversity Success Strategies was published in 1999.  Her most recent books are a textbook The Creative Intelligence Model and a related trade book The Innovative Woman.

Prior to coming to San Francisco State University, she held the position of Vocational Office Education Teacher-Coordinator, Ft. Worth Public Schools, 1970-1973 and was Vice President of Randy's Inc., a food store chain she co-founded in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, 1965-1970.  She began her work career as a legal secretary and earned the Certified Professional Secretary license.  In recent years she has been founder and owner of an antique business, Grannie’s Goodies, and co-founder of Maison Salon in Burlingame, CA—an 8-stylist hair salon.
