Hamlet THEATRE ARTS 435

THEATRICAL AUDITION

Course Description: The purpose of Theatrical Audition will be to develop skills in manifesting the struggle in an audition situation. In addition to performing monologues, students will practice cold-reading. Students will also be required to edit and direct monologues. One of the primary tools on this journey towards manifesting the struggle will be the 12 Guideposts described by Michael Shurtleff in his book, AUDITION. Clearly, your understanding of why people do the things that they do will be invaluable. The heart of the work will be identifying, cultivating, and executing an effective struggle.  Prerequisite: ThA 230.
