This website was designed and created by Professor Pinderhughes and David Luu. It was based on projects designed by students at San Francisco State University enrolled in a course entitled Alternative Urban Futures taught by Professor Raquel Pinderhughes. Utilizing as many recycled materials as possible and not spending more than $50, students were required to design and construct an appropriate technology that would reduce its users reliance on precious natural resources. The projects they designed demonstrate that it is relatively easy and affordable for people in the United States to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and water by introducing simple changes into their everyday lifestyles ˇdrying clothes on a clothesline rather than in the dryer, taking their bicycles rather than theirs cars to the supermarket, collecting rainwater for watering their gardens and washing their cars. We hope these projects inspire others to consider how they can reduce their ecological footprint on the world.
