The Athenian Treasury along the Sacred Way was built at the end of the 6th century BCE
Delphi was the site of Apollo's oracle, which he had acquired from Gaia,
Earth, by slaying her son, Python, a snake which guarded the oracle of Gaia. In the Homeric Hymn to Apollo Python is the female nurse of
Typhon whom Apollo had killed before arriving at Delphi. In the myths about the combat between Apollo and Python the gender of Python may be either male,
in which case he is usually the son of Gaia (Ge), or female, at which time she is the nurse of Typhon, the monster created by Gaia (Ge) to
attack the gods.
