Leaders in the AAC field emphasize the importance of creating access to literacy through adapting books for children with complex communication needs. Some key resources for adapting and creating books are provided below. In addition, books can be adapted for use on the computer. Further, switches can be adapted for use with the computer so that children can simply touch a switch or touch screen to advance to the next page of the book on the computer screen. Favorite books can be scanned into a digital format and put into a number of widely available photo and presentation formats such as IPhoto, Power Point, Intellitools, and others.
