All human remains in our care are handled with the utmost dignity and respect at all times. We do our best to honor reasonable special requests for handling or storage that are made by relatives or Native American groups while remains are in our care.

All laboratory personnel are required to undergo training in human remains protocol, safety and security procedures, and confidentiality issues.  Written guidelines are provided to all individuals, who are required to sign a statement of understanding.

Laboratory Positions

Laboratory positions, when they become available, are posted on the SFSU Human Resources Employment Opportunity Bulletin page.  In general, work in the Bioanthropology Laboratory includes cleaning, preparation, and descriptive analysis of human skeletal remains for NAGPRA and CEQA compliance projects.

 

The minimum qualifications for Laboratory Assistant positions are:

Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students at SFSU
 

bullet

All laboratory personnel must have completed ANTH 530 (Human Osteology) or the equivalent
 

bullet

It is expected that applicants have significant prior formal laboratory experience in anthropology or the biological sciences
 

bullet

It is also expected that applicants have had significant archaeological field experience
 

bullet

Competency in computer data entry and database management is required for most positions
