Patricia W. Cavanagh, M.S., CCC-SLP, Lecturer. Ms.
Cavanagh earned her M.S. in Communicative Disorders at SFSU in 1991. She
worked in various hospital and rehabilitation settings before accepting
her current position at the VA Medical Center in San Francisco. She has
been with the VA since 1995 specializing in dysphagia, voice and laryngectomy
work. She is a frequent presenter at FEES, videostroboscopy and laryngectomy
conferences in association with UCSF and Stanford University.

Mallorie Desimone, B.A., CD Clinic Manager. Ms.
Desimone graduated from SFSU in May 2007 with her bachelor's degree in
Liberal Studies. While a student, she worked in the Credential Services
Teacher Preparation Center. She is currently the CD Clinic Manager for
the CD program.

Laura Epstein, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Assistant Professor, Undergraduate/Graduate
Advisor. Dr. Epstein came to San Francisco
17 years ago to complete her Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa
Barbara; met her husband, and has lived in San Francisco ever since. She
has two children, ages 5 and 9. Her research and clinical interests include
language development and disorders, bilingual/multicultural language assessment,
articulation and phonology disorders, literacy and language, and the language
and processes of clinical interaction.

Stan Goldberg,
Ph.D.,CCC-SLP, Professor. Dr. Goldberg
earned a Ph.D. in speech pathology, a masters in political theory and
a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. For over 25 years he taught,
treated children, researched and published in the area of learning problems
and change. Dr. Goldberg has published four technical books, written numerous
articles and delivered over 100 lectures and workshops throughout the
United States, Latin America and Asia.

Bishop Graham, M.S., CCC-SLP, SFSU CD Clinic Coordinator. Mr.
Graham was named CD Clinic Coordinator in August 2006. "I decided
to pursue a career in speech and language pathology while working as a
special education paraprofessional with the Santa Monica Unified School
District and observing a SLP working with a group of language impaired
students." Since earning his M.S. from SFSU in 1988, Mr. Graham has
worked in the public schools in Baltimore, MD and San Francisco. He has
been a lecturer and clinical instructor in the Communicative Disorders
Program since 1996.

Minnie Graham, Ph.D.,CCC-SLP, Professor, Undergraduate/ Graduate Advisor.
Dr. Graham earned her Ph.D. in speech and hearing sciences at UCSF. Her
research, teaching and clinical expertise include voice disorders and
group therapy and she supervises the Alaryngeal Speech Clinic, a therapy
program for teaching esophageal, tracheoesophageal, and artificial larynx
methods to laryngectomees. Dr. Graham is a frequent speaker at state and
national conferences. In 2005, CSHA awarded her Honors of the Association
for her clinical service, teaching in communicative sciences and disorders,
research and publication, administrative service, and service to CSHA.

Jennifer Katz, M.S., CCC-SLP, Clinical Instructor.
Ms. Katz has been a speech language pathologist for fifteen years, beginning
her career in Florida, moving to Massachusetts and finally to the Bay
Area. In addition to her teaching and graduate student clinician supervisory
responsibilities, she has a private practice, Communicate, in
San Francisco.She has a variety of experience working with people of all
ages and her primary interests focus on oral motors disorder, traumatic
brain injury and bilingual language development.

Flo Kimmerling, M.S., CCC-SLP, Lecturer and Clinical Instructor. Ms.
Kimmerling's lifelong
fascination with language began as an undergraduate at Northwestern University,
followed by a Master's degree in psycholinguistics and reading at Harvard's
Graduate School of Education. After serving as a high school English teacher
and reading specialist for several years, she worked as a teacher of "minimally
brain damaged teenagers" (what learning disabled children were called
in the 70's) and then completed her M.S. in Communicative Disorders at
SFSU. In addition to teaching at SFSU, she works privately in the area
of language-learning disorders and serves on the staff at the Scottish
Rite Center for Childhood Language Disorders.

Catherine J. Mahaffie, Au.D, F-AAA, CCC-A. Lecturer & Clinical Instructor.
Dr. Mahaffie received her Bachelor and Master of Arts
in speech pathology and audiology from San Jose State University and her
doctorate in audiology from Arizona School of Health Sciences in August
of 2004. Dr. Mahaffie is a clinical audiologist with a specialty in diagnostic
evaluations and hearing aid dispensing. She has also been involved in
the educational and industrial aspect of audiology. Dr. Mahaffie has been
practicing audiology in San Jose for 21 years.

Blair Menn, M.A., CCC-SLP, Clinical Instructor. Mr.
Menn is the lead speech-language pathologist at PeopleFirst Rehab, Tunnel
Center in San Francisco. He received his graduate degree from Northwestern
University in 2003. Fluent in Spanish, he joins the CD faculty in Fall
2007 semester to supervise the adult neuorgenics disorders clinic.

Julie Oeser, M.A., CCC-SLP, & MBA, Lecturer & Clinical Instructor.
Ms. Oeser has worked for 25 years as a
speech-language pathologist in acute care, rehab, home health, skilled
nursing facilities, private practice, schools and health care administration.
She is the current co-president of the San Mateo County Speech, Language
and Hearing Association. Her areas of expertise include; dysphagia, articulation/phonology
and language disorders, ethics and advocacy. In 2007, she received the
CSHA District 4 Outstanding Achievement Award. Also, she has three wonderful

Nancy B. Robinson, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Associate Professor & Director
of the Communicative Disorders Program, Undergraduate/Graduate Advisor.
Dr. Robinson completed her master’s degree in speech
and hearing sciences at Portland State University and Ph.D. in special
education at the University of Washington. Her areas of teaching, clinical
practice, and research include augmentative and alternative communication
(AAC); early intervention; collaborative team development; family support;
and interagency systems development in remote rural areas, particularly
in the Pacific Islands. In 2007, she received the CSHA District 1 Outstanding
Achievement Award for her clinical service, teaching in communicative
sciences and disorders, research and publication, administrative service,
and service to CSHA.

Maryam Salehomoum, CCC-SLP, Clinical Instructor. Ms. Salehomoum
completed her master’s degree in speech-language pathology at CSU,
Long Beach. She then developed clinical expertise in the areas of autism
and hearing impairment in the SF Bay Area before returning to CSU Long
Beach as a full-time instructor for several years. Recently, Ms. Salehomoum
returned to the SF Bay Area and now works at the Center for the Education
of the Infant Deaf (CEID), in Berkeley. She has a passion for continuing
education and growth, and welcomes the opportunity to exercise such a
philosophy in both the clinical and teaching realms.

Michelle
Shimamoto, M.A., CCC-SLP, Instructor. Ms.
Shimamoto is a speech-language pathologist with a particular interest
in the human brain, its capacities, and its ability to heal. Here's what
her co-workers at Mills-Peninsula Health Services say about her: "You'll
hear her before you see her, because she loves to laugh. You'll often
find her experimenting with new ways to balance her 'chi'. Collaborating
with her is both functional and fun." Her personal interests include:
exploring new languages/ cultures, playing drums, and "giving back".

Patti Solomon-Rice, M.A., CCC-SLP, Lecturer and Clinical Instructor.
Ms. Rice is a doctoral candidate in the Joint Doctoral Program in Special
Education through San Francisco State University and the University of
California, Berkeley. She also is the Social Security Administration's
speech and language expert for California, Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii.
Prior to returning to school in Fall 2005, she was the clinic coordinator
at San Jose State University. Ms. Rice is a member of the ASHA Continuing
Education Board (CEB) and is currently serving a three-year term as chair
of the CEB. She is Commissioner for Publications and Research for CSHA
and also serves as a volunteer subject matter expert and expert witness
for SLPAB.

Sara Spencer, M.S., CCC-SLP, Clinical Instructor.
Ms. Spencer has worked as a speech pathologist in hospitals, schools and
private practice for almost 30 years. She has been in private practice
as well as supervising at SFSU for the past 16 of those years. She lives
in the Bay Area with her husband and two boys, 14 and 19.

Paul Stahoviak , M.S., CCC-SLP, Clinical Instructor.
Mr. Stahoviak received
his M.S. degree from SFSU in 1988. Mr. Stahoviak (A.K.A. Senor Pablo or
Mr. Paul by his students at Cesar Chavez Elementary School) has been a
speech-language pathologist with the San Francisco Unified School District
for the past 20 years. His caseload at Cesar Chavez elementary school
includes multicultural/multilingual students, hearing impaired students,
students with autism, cognitive disorders, learning disabilities, fluency
disorders, language disorders, voice disorders, etc. Mr. Stahoviak also
provides supervision for SLP graduate students from SFSU, San Jose State
University and Cal State East Bay during their school internships.

Molly Walker Moosman, M.S., CCC-SLP, Clinical Instructor.
Ms. Moosman earned her M.S. degree in Communicative Disorders from SFSU
in 2003. Aside from her clinical responsibilities at SFSU, she has been
a member of the Cochlear Implant Team and Speech/Language Center at Children's
Hospital Oakland for the the past three years. She has also worked in
both private and public early intervention and elementary school programs.

Betty Yu, M.A., CCC-SLP, Lecturer.
Betty Yu earned her M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from New York University
and a B.A. in Linguistics from UC Berkeley. She is currently pursuing
a Ph.D. in the Joint Doctoral Program in Special Education at UC Berkeley
and SFSU. Ms. Yu has been a practicing speech-language pathologist for
8 years across private practice, medical, preschool and early intervention
settings. Her clinical focus is on early intervention, augmentative and
alternative communication, autism spectrum disorders, and work with multilingual/multicultural
clients and their families. She is currently conducting research on the
communication experiences of children with autism spectrum disorders growing
up in bilingual settings.
