Serpentinite is our state rock and consists chiefly of the mineral serpentine. Serpentinite is a hydrated ultra-mafic (Fe- & Mg-rich) rock formed by metamorphism of sea-floor or mantle rocks. Serpentinite is found in the Franciscan Complex in the Marin Headlands.
