Calcite

Calcite is a rhombohedral carbonate mineral. Calcite is generally a colorless, white, or yellowish transparent to translucent mineral. A distinguishing characteristic of calcite is that it effervesces in dilute hydrochloric acid. Calcite is the chief constituent of limestone and marble and is found commonly in sedimentary environments.
