American Press Institute
Founded by newspaper publishers in 1946, the American Press Institute is the oldest and largest center devoted solely to training and professional development for the news industry and journalism educators. The institute in Reston, Virginia, conducts more than 30 residential seminars a year for journalists, sales, marketing and management professionals in print, broadcast, cable and digital media companies.

Associated Collegiate Press
Associated Collegiate Press co-sponsors an annual convention in the fall with College Media Advisers and an annual spring convention, usually held in the West. It also sponsors summer publications workshops for students.

Cox Institute for Newspaper Management Studies
The institute offers an intensive seminar each summer for college newspaper editors where students can acquire and sharpen skills in managing people, resources and time while meeting and working with their peers from across the country.

Journalism Association of Community Colleges
The association sponsors regional conferences for students and journalism educators, a national convention, a winter faculty conference and a summer editors workshop.

Journalism Training
Developed by the Society of Professional Journalists for the Council of National Journalism Organizations, JournalismTraining.org provides a centralized location for journalists seeking information about professional development opportunities. The centerpiece of the site is a searchable database of local, regional and national journalism training programs.

News University
A project of The Poynter Institute for Media Studies funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, NewsU is committed provides interactive, inexpensive online courses that appeal to journalists at all levels of experience and in all types of media.

No Train No Gain
No Train No Gain is a resource site for newsroom trainers. The site offers training tips and handouts on writing, editing, reporting, newsroom management skills, recruitment and retention, diversity, technology and newsroom surveys.

Poynter Institute for Media Studies
The Poynter Institute is a school for journalists, future journalists and teachers of journalists. It offers Summer Fellowships for Young Journalists in Reporting & Writing and in Visual Journalism. Its vast Web site also offers articles and columns useful for training.

Society for Collegiate Journalists
The Society for Collegiate Journalists is the nation's oldest organization designed solely to serve college journalists. It has approximately 100 active chapters nationwide and 1,200 members. SCJ sponsors an annual national contest, a biennial national convention, and national awards. It produces
a national magazine, The Collegiate Journalist, and monthly newsletters. In addition, local chapters sponsor workshops, seminars and speakers.

Western Association of University Publications Managers
This association offers networking and training for its 30 member schools. WAUPM has three major activities each year: a conference of members in the spring, a detailed data-exchange and a student editors' workshop in the summer.
