COURSE DESCRIPTION - SFSU BULLETIN:

This course is a continuation of basic voice training with added emphasis on developing vocal skills required by different styles of drama - Restoration and Shakespeare.

COURSE CONTENT :

This is an acting class with an emphasis on Voice; Vocal Skills and Vocal Creativity. The goal of this course is to free, strengthen and use the voice as an integral part of the actor's being: Voice, body, mind, emotion, soul and interpretation of text. We will begin by exploring alignment, breath, release of sound, resonance, articulation and projection. We will develop an awareness of the inner/natural voice and we will free the channel for sound.

By working with various voice techniques, we will release and unite the body and voice - readying the actor's instrument for true and energized expression. Study, analysis , rehearsal and presentation of Scenes and Monologues of Shakespeare + Restoration will be the major part of our class time after the basics of breathing, relaxation, projection and articulation have been developed in our warm-ups.

REQUIRED TEXTS:

Works of Shakespeare
Restoration anthology - several are available.
