Week 1 - Jan 28-30 - Introduction: Orientation and Overview Of Course.

Read: Alinsky's Prologue; Ross's Forward; and Salomon's Forward by Elizabeth Martinez and author's note; and "A History of SFSU's Raza Studies" (http://online.sfsu.edu/~josecuel/a_history.htm) and "SFSU's La Raza Studies Paradigm: A Multidimensional Model for Multiethnic Latin@ Education Into Y2K." Online: Post your introduction on Blackboard;
Research: do online search for "community organizing" and makes critical notes on yourfive most interesting findings.
Write: list of at least ten (the more, the better) assumptions (normally, unstated beliefs) that you bring to this community organizing course of study, and make a critical thinking note for each.
Week 2 - Feb 2-4-6 - Ethnic/Raza Studies Perspectives and Paradigms for our Community Organizing.

Fri - Small study group discussion of how to best integrate the important points in texts with those of the Ethnic/Raza Studies and Enemies of Knowledge Paradigms.
Read: Alinsky's The Purpose (pp. 3-23), Ross's The Helstein Plan and Hunting for the Key (pp.1-12), and Salomon's Introduction (pp. ix-xiii).
Write: first draft of intro and your methods/approaches sections of your critical assumptions essay.
Start working bibliography (an annotated list of references) for your community service learning report.
