Fri - Small study group discussion of requirements and assignments
Read: Barnet and Bedau's Preface; Burbach and Clarke's Introduction; Loewen's Introduction; Cuellar's A History of SFSU's Raza Studies (http://online.sfsu.edu/~josecuel/a_history.htm) and "SFSU's La Raza Studies Paradigm: A Multidimensional Model for Multiethnic Latin@ Education Into Y2K." ( http://online.sfsu.edu/~josecuel/paradigm.htm )
Write: list of at least ten (the more, the better) assumptions (normally, unstated beliefs) that you bring to this course of study, and make a critical thinking note for each.
Online: Post your introduction on Blackboard;
Research: then do an online search for "critical thinking" and makes notes on the five most interesting findings and texts.
Week 2 - Feb 2-4-6 - The Ethnic/Raza Studies Paradigm and Critical Thinking

Fri - Small study group discussion of how to best integrate the important points in the intros to texts with those of the Ethnic/Raza Studies and Enemies of Knowledge Paradigms.
Read: Barnet and Bedau's Critical Thinking and Critical Reading: Getting Started (pp. 1-49); and Loewen's Handicapped by History ... (pp. 18-36)
Write: first draft of intro and your methods/approaches sections of your critical assumptions essay.
Online: Post a paragraph summary of your critical reading notes for each chapter on Blackboard.
Week 3 - Feb 9-11-13 - The Multidimensional Human Systems Model
Mon - Class discussion of getting started on Critical thinking and reading
Wed - The Multidimentional Human Systems Model for Critical Analyses
Friday - Small study group discussion of how you can make best use of Barnet and Bedau's critical thinking (p 8), examining assumptions (p. 14), and getting started (p. 34) checklists.
Read: Barnet and Bedau's Critical Reading: Getting Deeper into An Argument (pp. 50-98), Loewen's 1493 ... (pp. 137-74)
Write: first draft the findings and critical analysis sections of your assumptions essay.
