Testing

Testing is an alternative and supplement to interviewing.  Tests can be used for simulation to determine skill sets for positions that staffing professionals are trying to fill.

Legal Considerations for Computer Testing

Legal Consideration Is it addressed in the Recommended Solution?
Title VII prohibits employers from discriminating in employment decisions on the basis of race, color, religion, sex and national origin.

The applicant will be completing a test at a terminal. There will be no information solicited during that test that pertains to race, color, religion, sex or national origin. Therefore, when the computer assesses the score it will not have the information that Title VII prohibits using for making decisions.
The test will face questions regarding "Content Validity" by EOC Guidelines. The test will accomplish these items to validate the content:
  • It will measure the skills it is evaluating
  • Score levels will be assessed at a reasonable and consistent rate with the expectations.
  • The skills tested will be determined after doing a thorough job analysis and identifying the essential job skills and their importance.
The testing system must be measured for any "adverse impact" by using the 4/5 Rule.
  • The "bottom line" selection rates using the recommended solution will be evaluated to determine if there is an adverse impact.
  • To circumvent any possible doubts about the test, the test will be "validated" according to EEOC Guidelines as explained in #2 regarding "Content Validity."
