Ver 1.0 was a three-day workshop on public database verification for journalists and social scientists held in Santa Fe, New Mexico USA in April 2006. Ten journalists and 10 statisticians, social scientists, public administrators and computer scientists met to discuss mutual concerns and worked to find solutions. This book contains most of the papers presented and the workproduct of three breakout groups, each investigating a different aspect of the problem.  Papers by George Duncan, Phil Meyer, Paul Overberg, Marcus Messner, Bruce Garrison, Griff Palmer, Roger Critchlow, Jeff South, Lisa Abrams, Jack Stafurik and Tom Johnson.

15 Oct 2005 The reminder Call for Papers note has just been sent to leading journalists and social scientists in the U.S. and abroad.
4 Oct 2005 Had a number of good discussions RE: Ver 1.0 and its objectives during the Global Investigative Journalism Conference 2005 in Amsterdam.  It seems clear our concerns are not limited to U.S. databases.
