This
white paper demonstrates the use of information architecture components as a foundation for thinking about personalization. After defining the information architecture components, it describes a model that combines the components into a complete personalization system. This model could be used to guide your personalization system development methodology, evaluate a set of personalization systems, or merely to give you the terminology to help you communicate about personalization.

Week # II

Monday: 29 Jan. 2001
Wednesday:
31 Jan 2001

Topic:

§     Introduction to SIMVENTURE

Readings:

§   W. Edwards Deming is a management analyst who came up with something called the “Theory of Constraints.”  Don’t be put off by that title or topic because this web site will serve as an introduction to General Systems Theory, a conscious approach that we will use to develop our web site proposal.  Go to this link and work through it, paying careful attention to the vocabulary of the field.  In fact, you will find a glossary there.  Many of the terms are specific to Deming’s work, so don’t feel you have to memorize them.  Just look for things related to the definition of

o  SYSTEM;

o  VARIABLES;

o  RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN VARIABLES and

o  SYSTEM GOALS

http://www.thedecalogue.com/mstusamap.htm

Pre-Class Assgns:

§     Explore your CD with the SIMVENTURE program

In-Class Assgns:

§      Task #04: Critiquing non-English Web sites

Notes:
