Sept. 10

Introduction to the course and the instructor. Introduction to the new AID degree. Introduction to the disciplines involved in the new degree: commonalities and differences. Introduction to tools used in quick sketch. A quick sketch exercise and assignment.

 

Sept. 17

Panel discussing markets and careers. Rapid visualization/quick sketch. Demonstration, examples and exercises from fashion design and interior design. A quick sketch assignment.

HB and 2B drawing pencils. 9"x12" drawing tablet. Eraser

Sept. 24

Discuss AID 200 portfolios. Continuing exercises in quick sketch. Emphasis on sketching the human form.

Oct. 1

Drafting basics. Introduction to tools and symbols. Drawing to scale. Drawing a floor plan and elevation. Drawing flats. Assignment: floor plan and two elevations or fashion assignment. Due next week.

Drawing pencils, sharpener, 1/8" grid paper (9"x12"), eraser, architectural rule, 18" steel ruler, erasing shield, house-planning template.

Oct. 8

Lettering concepts and styles. Demonstration. Lettering exercises.

Oct. 15

Presentation media: Mounting and matting skills and techniques. Demonstration. Hands-on practice. Presentation lettering using press-on and Kroy letters. Assignment: prepare a materials board (either fashion design or interior design). Due next week.

Utility knife, matte board, packing tape, scissors, cardboard backing, foam core, spray adhesive (or dry mount tissue)

Oct. 22

Presentation and critique of materials boards. Parts of a computer. Introduction to computers and their role in AID communication.

 

Oct. 29

Using a paint program. Demonstration. Hands on practice. Assignment: Complete and print out design concept in Paint program. Due next week.

 

Nov. 5

Computer aided drafting; concepts and purposes. Demonstration. Hands on practice. Assignment: Complete and print out design concept in CAD program. Due next week.

 

Nov. 12

Computer practice. Turn in quick sketch and lettering tablet.

 

Nov. 19

Design and layout. PowerPoint software. Demonstration and hands-on practice. Assignment: prepare a PowerPoint presentation with at least five slides. Due next week.

 

Nov. 26

Presentation of PowerPoint slides.

 

Dec. 3

Presentation of PowerPoint slides.

 

Dec. 10

Model building: Definitions, concepts and importance of the skill. Tools used. Hands-on experience (Simple paper models). Last day of class.

 
 

Final: Turn in and critique AID 200 portfolios.
