It has been said that most German families throughout the world with the surname "Layher" or "Layer" emigrated from the lovely German town of Kirchberg on the Murr River in the Rems-Murr District (Wuerttemberg region near Stuttgart). We share a common ancestor from that area, Georg Layher (born April 16, 1617 - died December 16, 1692). One of his great-great-grandsons, Georg Jacob Layher (born 1772 - died 1827) served as Mayor of Kirchberg/Murr).
