Strasbourg, Germany, is renown as the birthplace of the printing press in the 1450s. Johannes Gutenberg's developed his ideas in Strasbourg leading to its construction in Mainz. Gutenberg's printing press is ranked as perhaps the most important invention in the history of human communication. Many agree that the World Wide Web is the most revolutionary invention since the printing press. Redwood City was the birthplace of the NeXT computer in 1988. This amazing computer and its revolutionary software were used by Tim Berners-Lee to create the first Web browser while he was working at CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics. He considered the NeXT as essential for the beginning of the World Wide Web. |
