Week 5:

Information enters the mind through this.

This is the type of memory that gives us the ability to recall how to do something.

Which type of memory strategy uses a familiar location and then imagines each images on the list in one of those places?

The primacy and recency effects find that people usually remember which items?

This is the process of maintaining an item in short-term memory by repetition.

This week we will looking at the cognitive theory of learning, specifically the Information Processing Model. Information enters the mind through the sensory register and then goes to short-term memory where it is either forgotten, or processed and stored in long-term memory. From here it can be retrieved when needed.

There are three types of long term memory: episodic, semantic, and procedural. Episodic memory contains images of experiences organized by when and where they happened. Semantic memory is organized in networks of connected relationships called schema. Procedural memory is the ability to recall how to do something. Many different strategies exist for memorizing information. These will be discussed this week as well.
