Behaviorism is a movement in psychology that began with John B. Watson in 1913. Psychology, according to behaviorists, is a science whose goal is the prediction and control of behavior, not of the mind. B. F. Skinner is a well-known behaviorist who believed that humans could be "programmed" to do almost anything given the proper environmental conditions or stimuli and a desired response. Skinner maintained that learning occurred as a result of the organism responding to its environment, and coined the term "operant conditioning" to describe this phenomenon.
