Discovery Learning

Major Theorist:

Jerome Bruner

Theory:

Learning takes place in situations where the students have to solve problems by drawing on their own experiences, and testing new ideas and working with other students to discover truths to be learned. Students draw on cognitive structures to do this

Role of the teacher:

The role of the teacher is to pose good questions and to provide the forum for students to be able to test hypothesis and make discoveries for themselves. The teacher should be an encourager and motivator.

Role of the student

The role of the student is to take what they already know to help them make hypothesis and test theories to come up with solutions to problems.
