STEP 1: How to log into a remote
server for FTPing
1. Launch your program (Fetch or WSftp is what we use at City College).
2. You'll need an address: hills.ccsf.org
3. username: I provided this to you
4. password: your birth date (i.e., apr1380)
5. Now you're ready to load files:
· Under remote, use "put directories and files" to Upload
files from your hard disk to the remote server. You can also create, delete,
and rename directories under this menu item.
· Under remote, use "get directories and files" to download
files from the server to your local drive.
· Remember to name your home page index.html. That way, it will load automatically.
· Put all your web docs in the Public folder (or create a subdirectories for your other files)
· You can find your uploaded files at: hills.ccsf.org/~username/filename
FINAL EXERCISE: FINAL PROJECT
I've given you black and white printouts of the pages that you should build.
These pages have been printed out at 75 percent the original size to fit the
entire design. You'll find all the elements that you need to put these HTML
pages in the FINALPROJECT folder on your hard disk. Each page has its own folder
for graphics and raw text documents. In the root folder, you'll also find screen
shots of the completed pages so you can see the actual size of the graphics
and type and the colors and layout more clearly.
The project:
Take the steps you would on a regular HTML project as follows:
1. Sketch out the Web pages and file names (you'll open the files inside the
directories) to make it easier to build them. These pages should link together
via the table of contents at top.
2. Create your folder structure
3. Start creating your HTML files (you may want to mark up the Table first,
before you start)
Hint: You can use Photoshop to figure out the width and height of the graphics
for the table.
The Goal:
Finish as much as you can - starting with the first page. Don't worry too much
about matching the color scheme and fonts. I'm more interested that you know
how to build the table, code text and insert graphics and links. Don't forget
to FTP your final pages to the server when you're done.
