Constructive Instructional Models

1. Discovery Learning

Discovery learning enjoys the support of several theorists, such as Piaget, Bruner and Papert. Bruner is usually thought as the major representitative for this model. Discovery learning takes place mostly in problem solving situations where the learners are encouraged to draw on their personal experience and prior knowledge to discover principles for themselves.

2. Reception Learning

David Ausubel is the representative theorist of reception learning. He described this model as a teacher-planned, well-organized instruction that progresses from general ideas to specific details.

3. Scaffolding

Scaffolding is also called assisted learning, based on Vygotsky's theoretical concept. This instructional model calls for teacher assistance to students' skill internalization.
