Out of all of the Amanita species ectotrophic with pines in the Northern
Hemisphere, only A. muscaria has made it to the Hawaiian Islands, probably
introduced along with Pinus taeda L. from eastern North America. This lovely
yellow to orange pileate species is commonly encountered under pines on the
island of Kaua`i.
