This is the most common of Hawai`i's magic mushrooms, occurring in cow dung
in pastures throughout the Islands. A powerful hallucinogenic mushroom, we caution
against eating this species because it is illegal to possess them and because we have seen
too many poisoning cases attributed to the ingestion of misdetermined coprophilous
fungi. Descriptions of Copelandia and Panaeolus species may be found in Olah, Le
Genre Panaeolus (Rev. Mycol. Ser. 10: 1-274. 1969).
