Fees
Online Application Fee
To complete the online application for either the CCT or AET, a $60 non-refundable fee must be paid. This is usually done through a credit card. Contact the Program Office for alternative means of payment.
Processing Fee
Once an offer of admission into either the CCT or AET has been received, a one-time, non-refundable processing fee of $500 must be paid, usually within 2-3 weeks of the admission offer, to hold your position in the Program. This fee must be paid through a check or money order written to "SFSU Trust Funds"; credit cards cannot be used for this transaction.
Boot-Camp Fees
A Chemistry Boot-Camp ($120, May 30 to June 1, 2012) and a Math Boot-Camp ($150, June 4-15, 2012) will be available to those starting the CCT. Please pay fees on the first day of the Boot-Camp by check, money order or cash. Checks and money orders should be written to "SFSU Trust Funds." Although no boot-camps have been developed specifically for the AET, members of this track are welcome to participate in the CCT Boot-Camps.
Tuition
Tuition in the CCT and AET is charged on a per unit of course work basis. For the 2012-2013 Academic Year, core classes will cost $600 per unit and electives will cost $500 per unit, the same as during the 2011-2012 Academic Year. Core classes (pre-requisites) consist of all major's level introductory science and math lectures and labs. Likewise, Special Studies in Biology costs $600 per unit. As an incentive, discussion sections now cost $200 per unit ($200 total) and Colloquia cost $100 per unit ($200 total). Electives consist of upper-division science lectures. CCT and AET students pay the same tuition for classes; however, the AET tends to be less expensive than the CCT because AET students mainly take electives.
The entire 2-year (6-semester), 62-unit tuition for CCT Cohort 6 is $31,700. The minimum 2-year, 44-unit tuition is $25,600 (see details below). However, total CCT tuition is usually between these two extremes, because no one is forced to take core classes they have already taken and done well in, and most participants enroll in some but not all optional classes. Based on past cohorts' selection of classes, the avergae CCT Cohort 6, 2-year tuition is expected to be about $28,000 based on 52 total units of course work. There is no difference in costs for in-state and out-of-state residents.
The AET costs $500 per unit for electives or $6,000 per semester for a full 12-unit course load (see details below). We recommend that AETs take 9 units of course work during our 10-week summer semester and 12 units of course work during our 15-week fall and spring semesters. Further, we recommend that those AETs who before entering our Program earned grades of B or above for their most recent 60 semester-units or 90 quarter-units of pre-health course work, consider applying to health profession graduate schools after one year (3 semesters) in our Program (cost, ~$16,500). Lastly, we recommend that that AETs who do not meet this criterion apply to health profession graduate schools after two years (6 semesters) in our Program (cost, ~$32,200). On occasion, AETs who need only a few courses are admitted.
See the Curricula web page for detailed course schedules. Breakdowns of tuition by semester are shown below.

Note: Formal Post-Bacs are not permitted to take any classes through our Informal Post-Bac Programs (2nd-Bac or Open U).
Audited Classes: In some cases it is better to audit a course rather than retake it for credit. For example, a CCT participant that took General Chemistry I five years ago with a grade of B+ does not need to retake the class (indeed, this may look like GPA padding) yet may not remember much of its content. This student could audit the lecture component of the course during the first summer so that they are better prepared for Organic Chemistry I the following fall. In general, labs are not available for auditing. Likewise, an AET participant that took Genetics five years ago with a grade of B+ could audit Genetics during their first semester so that they are better prepared for other upper-division electives (e.g., Molecular Pathophysiology) the following semester.
Audits cost the same as full tuition and are noted on the student's transcript.
Payment: Tuition is due by the beginning of each semester, is paid to the College of Extended Learning (CEL), and can be paid in-person or online, by check or credit card.
Financial Aid is available in the form of subsidized and non-subsidized loans. Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to complete theFree Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application as soon as possible and officially forwarding a copy to our Financial Aid Office. When completing the FAFSA, be sure to indicate that you are applying for an undergraduate, post-bac program.
Please note: Recent changes in federal policy has reduced the financial aid available to Formal Post-Bacs. At present, because the Formal Post-Bac Program confers a certificate and not a degree, students are only able to receive federal financial aid for one year (three continuous semesters), starting when the student joins the program. Thereafter, students can still get financial aid through private loans and scholarships. Students facing this issue can also work part-time while taking classes part-time. This issue affects most CCTs, who are part of a 2-year program and those AETs who need to be in the Formal Post-Bac Program for more than three semesters. We presently are working to remedy this situation by converting the Formal Post-Bac Program into a 2nd-Bac and/or Master's degree program.
For more information on financial aid, please contact our Financial Aid Advisor; you are more likely to get a speedy response from our Financial Aid Advisor than from the SFSU Financial Aid Office, which has been overwhelmed with inquiries.
