Asakusa Area Accommodations

Asakusa is part of what is called “old downtown Tokyo” the center of Edo. Much of Asakusa was destroyed during the Second World War (the US firebombed this area and incinerated it). Although most of the structures in the area are new, the spirit of the area is much alive – Kitano “Beat” Takashi is a typical embodiment of the “old downtown spirit.” It’s a little bit rougher than some of the “gentrified,” sophisticated, or “hip” areas of Tokyo (e.g., Shibuya, Harajuku, Ginza).
