Katsushige Nakahashi was
born in Kagawa, Japan, in 1955. He currently lives in Otsu, just
outside Kyoto, and is a professor of sculpture at the Kyoto City
University of Arts. Nakahashi was raised in postwar Japan, and some of
his fondest memories are of playing with, and building, toy models,
especially models of the famous Japanese World War II–era fighter
plane: the Zero. These childhood memories would later manifest in his
work, specifically, his Zero Projects, where the artist
reconstructs full-scale replicas of the plane made entirely out of
photographs.
