Acknowledgments

The H.E.A.R.T. Project is deeply indebted to Toni Ayres and Ann Auleb, the Co-Coordinators of the project. Without their patience, dedication, and expertise, this training material would not have been possible. The Project is also especially grateful to the World Institute on Disability (WID), upon whose previous work we built, and to Caesar Perrotti of WID who was our initial contact and supporter of this grant. I also thank the AIDS Coordinating Committee at San Francisco State University, a collaborator on this project, and in particular, Michael Ritter, its chair, who has been a strong supporter . Many California State Department of Rehabilitation (DR) professionals have been instrumental in facilitating the training and supporting the goals and objectives of the H.E.A.R.T. Project. In particular, I want to thank Brenda Premo, Director of DR, Carolyn Onasch, District Administrator of the San Diego District, Arturo Lopez, District Administrator, Fresno; Luciana Profaca, District Administrator of the San Francisco District, Ed Rogers, Northern Regional Manager, Melinda Wilson, Assistant Deputy Director, Ed Kurata, Regional Programs Manager, Peter Harsch, Supervisor, Mark Ehrlichman, Supervisor, Henry Leng, District Administrator of Oakland District, Louis Dunn, Senior Counselor in San Francisco, Charles Ariokasamy, Rh.D., California State University, Fresno, Sari Dworkin, Ph.D., California State University, Fresno, Beverly Netters, Training Coordinator in Sacramento, to name only a few. A special thanks to Brian Wolfe, clerical assistant for the first two years of the project. Finally, I am deeply indebted to James Glassford, Research Assistant on the grant for his untiring and conscientious work on this project. The Department of Counseling at San Francisco State University provides home base for this project and its director. This manual could not have been written without the work of many gifted, expert, and dedicated people and I gratefully acknowledge their contributions below.
