Chapter 5 – Locating immigrant clusters with census data

People live in patterns in cities, and the patterns do not always neatly follow administrative boundaries. This chapter discusses residential patterns of immigrants in cities, which can be measured and analyzed using different geographic aggregations (e.g., clusters) not yet recognized by public sector agencies. It focuses on the case study of immigrant clusters in San Francisco (China-born, Philippines-born, and Mexico-born) and other fluid clustering of people in space. Exercise 5 uses data analyzed in this chapter.
