I recently acquired this interesting and historic surveillance receiver manufactured by CEI Communication Electronics, Inc., of Bethesda, Maryland, around 1961. Other versions were offered to various government agencies including microwave frequencies. This model used nuvisters in the RF circuits and covered the entire VHF spectrum of 30 to 300 MHz with two Mallory Inductuners. The CV-1750/U (military version of the FE-25-1 Frequency Extender) contains two additional Mallory Inductuners to extend the frequency range of the receiver to 1GHz. CEI was acquired by Watkins-Johnson in 1967, which continued several CEI models with the WJ logo.

Duracap is still manufacturing Inductuners

The CEI RS-111 receiver was famous for its use in the President Richard Nixon Watergate episode. This Model 901-1 was part of that same series of spy VHF and UHF receivers and uses the same Mallory Inductuner RF modules for the VHF frequencies.
