The Impact of National and Local Policy on the Western Region -- US and China Experience"

San Francisco State University Center for US-China Policy Studies and China Academy for Social Sciences Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology will co-organize an international conference titled “
Environmental Protection Policy: The Impact of National and Local Policy on the Western Region -- US and China Experience” to be held at China Academy for Social Sciences Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology from March 24-25, 2009, (Tuesday and Wednesday), with check-in on the 23rd and departure date on the 26th. The conference organizer will cover a round-trip flight ticket (economy class) and provide room and board accommodations for selected paper presenters.

We invite papers from scholars both within China and abroad who investigate any aspect of the conference theme. Papers can address major issues, challenges, experience, and policy suggestions in China’s environmental protection policy and engage in a comparative study of Chinese and international experience in theory and practice of environmental policy.

Paper proposals should include paper title, names of authors, institutional affiliation, address, phone number, fax number, e-mail address, and an abstract – everything in one page. Paper proposals from international scholars should be submitted in Englsih and emailed to Dr. Sujian Guo at sguo@sfsu.edu  To facilitate our selection process, please put “2009 Shanghai conference paper proposal” in the subject line of your emails. Paper proposals from scholars within China should be submitted in Chinese and emailed to Professor Zhang Jijiao at jjzhang@cass.org.cn


1. The deadline for international scholars to submit paper proposals is October 31, 2008.
2. The acceptance letter will be issued to selected paper presenters by November 15, 2008
3. Paper presenters must submit full papers (no length limit) by February 15, 2009 to receive travel subsidies and conference accommodations.
4. Conference organizer will cover round-trip economy-class airfare and room and board accommodations during the conference.
5. Conference languages: Chinese and English
