Getting Started
Psy 601
Be sure to read the Course Description and the syllabus carefully before starting.
- Go to the Psy 601 web page. Click on Unit 1 and up will come a list of the Modules (sub parts) of that
unit. Click on Module 1 and start reading.
- Use the questions at the beginning as a guide to what is important. Read
the text. You may wish to print it for easier note taking. There are some "links" that are embedded in the text.
- Take the Progress Check at the end of each section. There may be one or more answers to each question. The purpose of that is to be sure that you think of a concept in a number of different ways. When you finish, click on the "key" to score yourself. There is one key for all the progress checks in the unit. You are not expected to get all the questions right. They sometimes include detailed specific questions. In any event, don't use them as a basis for what to study for the final. The questions on the Unit Tests are more reliable and the ones on the final still better.
- Do the Exercises. They are often intended to elaborate upon important points. A key to score yourself appears at the bottom of the page.
- Then take the second Progress Check and score yourself.
- Continue to Module 2 and all remaining modules and proceed in the same way as before. When you finish all the modules, take the electronic Unit Test on ILearn.
- You are not expected to get all the qustions right on the ILearn Unit Tests. But if you have done all the progress checks, exercises, and reviewed the material, then you should not miss more than 4 questions (80% right) on the Unit Tests. This is called "mastery." If you fall below this (65-80), email me within a week, requesting another form to be sent by email. It will be hand scored and returned to you. There are two alternate tests available to show "mastery." Scores below 65 suggest one has not studied sufficiently and alternative tests may not be made available.
- Your performance on the Unit Tests does not calculated in your course grade, as long as all units are mastered. One missed or low unit will be excused. Unit test scores (or averages) will neither riase nor lower your course grade (except in borderline cases where student has not mastered units by deadline dates, etc.) It is, therefore, important to take the unit tests conscientiously, without using notes or other help. Some students try to appear to do well by using help, only to be surprised at the end by getting a failing or low grade on the final exam. Getting less than 80% on the ILearn Unit Tests means that you need to use more effective study habits, or else be content to score low on the comprehensive final exam.
